Volusia County Opens New Animal Intake Shelter in DeLand 🐾

Volusia County has officially opened its new animal intake shelter at 2120 E. International Speedway Blvd. in DeLand, marking a significant step forward in animal welfare and public safety for the region.

The facility is designed to house stray animals, quarantined pets, and those involved in cruelty investigations from unincorporated Volusia County, as well as the cities of Oak Hill and Pierson. With modern amenities and a compassionate care approach, the shelter aims to provide a safe haven for animals in need while streamlining services for local residents.

🐶 What Residents Should Know:

  • Found a stray? If you're in unincorporated Volusia County, Oak Hill, or Pierson, call Volusia County Animal Services dispatch at 386-248-1777. They’ll help arrange care at the County shelter or connect you with partner organizations like:

    • Southeast Volusia Humane Society

    • Edgewater Animal Shelter

    • New Hope Animal Shelter

  • Live in an incorporated city? Contact your city’s animal control authority for guidance on handling stray animals.

  • Need to surrender a pet? The County shelter does not accept owner-surrendered animals. Residents should reach out to private, nonprofit shelters for assistance.

  • Lost a pet? The shelter is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for residents of unincorporated Volusia County, Oak Hill, and Pierson to reclaim lost pets.
