Tragedy in Ocala: 76-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

A 76-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday evening while pushing a grocery cart across State Road 200 near Southwest 60th Street in Ocala. The fatal incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., according to local authorities.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that the victim was attempting to cross SR-200 when a vehicle traveling eastbound struck him and fled the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the site of the collision. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored SUV, possibly with front-end damage. Law enforcement is actively searching for the driver and urges anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash temporarily shut down eastbound lanes of SR-200 as investigators worked through the night to collect evidence and reconstruct the scene.
