FHP Investigates Fatal Volusia Hit-and-Run; Multiple Vehicles Sought

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is urgently seeking information about a tragic overnight hit-and-run crash that left one man dead and several vehicles under investigation. The fatal incident occurred just after midnight on U.S. Highway 92 near Calle Alto Vista, not far from the DeLand Municipal Airport.

According to FHP officials, the victim—a 54-year-old Deltona resident—was walking across the westbound lanes of U.S. 92 when he was struck by the side mirror of a passing vehicle. The impact knocked him to the ground, where he was subsequently run over by multiple other vehicles. Disturbingly, none of the drivers stopped to offer help or report the crash.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene and pronounced the man deceased. Troopers believe that several of the vehicles involved may not have realized they struck a person, especially given the late hour and low visibility. However, authorities emphasize that failing to stop and render aid in a crash involving injury or death is a serious offense under Florida law.

“This is a deeply saddening case,” said an FHP spokesperson. “We are asking anyone who was driving in the area around that time, especially those with dashcams, to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help us identify the vehicles involved and bring closure to the victim’s family.”

Investigators are combing through surveillance footage and forensic evidence to piece together the sequence of events. They are also working to determine whether any of the vehicles sustained damage that could help identify them.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Florida Highway Patrol by dialing *347 or to submit tips anonymously through CrimeLine at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).

The investigation remains active, and FHP is committed to ensuring accountability in this heartbreaking case.
