Volusia County is ramping up efforts to combat food insecurity in the wake of Hurricane Ian, thanks to new disaster relief funding from the Florida Department of Commerce. The Community Services Block Grant – Disaster Relief Supplemental Funding is being used to expand local food assistance programs and bolster community food security through strategic partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and area food pantries.
The funding will support a series of food distribution events throughout October and November, while also helping to replenish supplies at churches, pantries, and community resource centers serving residents in need.
📦 Upcoming Food Distribution Events:
-
Wednesday, Oct. 22 | 11:30 a.m. until supplies run out Calvary Christian Church Dream Center 794 Old Mission Road, New Smyrna Beach
-
Thursday, Nov. 6 | Noon to 3 p.m. Hope Place 1340 Wright St., Daytona Beach
There are no income requirements to receive food assistance, but participants must show proof of Volusia County residency, such as a driver’s license or government-issued ID.
By teaming up with Second Harvest and local partners, Volusia County is working to ensure that every resident has access to nutritious meals and the support needed to build a more resilient community.
