Volusia County, FL — Volusia County Beach Safety has issued double-red flags along the county’s coastline, signaling a complete prohibition on entering the water until further notice. The decision comes in response to dangerous surf conditions, strong rip currents, and significant debris left behind by recent tidal activity.
Earlier this morning, the Jetty Connector in Ponce Inlet sustained notable structural damage, compounding concerns. The jetty has remained closed to the public since Hurricane Imelda, when it first suffered tide-related impacts. County officials say debris removal will begin once conditions stabilize.
In addition to debris, large amounts of seaweed have washed ashore. Beach Safety officials are urging visitors not to remove or disturb the seaweed, as it plays a critical role in trapping sand and aiding the natural recovery of beaches and dunes.
Beach driving access is also expected to remain limited for several days, depending on how quickly conditions improve.

Stay safe and heed all posted warnings.
