DAYTONA BEACH FL, A Flagler County law enforcement officer was found in a troubling situation Thursday evening after crashing his vehicle into a pole in the parking lot of a McDonald's on Palm Coast Parkway.
Deputies identified the driver as Officer Edward Lee, 35, a member of a local law enforcement agency. According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, Lee was discovered inside his vehicle following the single-car collision, which occurred near the entrance of the fast-food restaurant. Witnesses reportedly called authorities after noticing the vehicle had struck a light pole and remained stationary for an extended period.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after 7 p.m., where they found Lee conscious but disoriented. It remains unclear what caused the crash, and officials have not confirmed whether impairment, a medical episode, or mechanical failure played a role. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries to bystanders were reported.
The Sheriff's Office has not disclosed whether Officer Lee was on duty at the time of the incident. As of Friday morning, no charges have been filed, and the department has not commented on whether internal disciplinary measures are being considered.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, some of whom witnessed the aftermath and expressed confusion over the circumstances. Surveillance footage from the McDonald's location may be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities say the investigation is active and further details will be released as they become available.
