King Tides and Rainfall Raise Flooding Concerns in Daytona Beach

🌊 Daytona Beach, FL — Residents in coastal Volusia County are being urged to stay alert as a combination of seasonal king tides and persistent rainfall raises the risk of localized street flooding through the week.

In Daytona Beach, where some drainage systems connect directly to tidal waterways, the elevated tides are pushing water inland, temporarily leaving rainwater pooled on roads and in residential yards. The situation is especially pronounced in low-lying neighborhoods near the Halifax River, where water levels may remain high even after rainfall subsides.

City officials advise households in flood-prone areas to take precautions, such as securing outdoor belongings, monitoring local alerts, and preparing for possible water intrusion. Motorists are reminded to avoid driving through standing water, which can conceal hazards and damage vehicles.

While rain chances are expected to taper off by midweek, tides will remain elevated through Saturday, October 11. Minor flooding may continue during periods of rainfall, particularly in coastal and low-lying zones.

As tides recede, drainage systems are expected to gradually clear excess water, improving conditions. Until then, residents are encouraged to remain cautious and plan accordingly.
