Ormond Beach, FL — In a decisive move against persistent drug activity, detectives with the East Volusia Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant Thursday morning at 1727 Carolina Avenue, marking the second time in less than two years that the residence has been shut down for suspected narcotics operations.
The early-morning raid brought a swift and coordinated response from law enforcement. Nine individuals were found on the premises, and five were taken into custody on charges ranging from drug possession to outstanding warrants. Officials have not yet released the names of those arrested, pending further investigation and formal charges.
The home, already known to authorities for previous drug-related incidents, was found to be in a state of severe disrepair. Code enforcement officers accompanying the task force documented multiple violations, including structural hazards, unsanitary conditions, and fire safety risks. The extent of the damage and neglect led officials to declare the property uninhabitable. It has since been condemned and boarded up.
“This location has been a recurring problem for the neighborhood,” said a spokesperson for the task force. “We’re committed to removing these threats and restoring safety and peace to our communities.”
The East Volusia Narcotics Task Force, a multi-agency unit comprised of local police departments and sheriff’s office personnel, has been actively targeting high-risk properties with repeated criminal activity. Their efforts aim not only to disrupt illegal drug operations but also to address the broader impact on surrounding neighborhoods.
Residents of Carolina Avenue expressed a mix of relief and frustration. “We’ve been reporting suspicious activity for months,” said one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous. “It’s good to see action being taken, but it shouldn’t have taken this long.”
Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that additional charges may be forthcoming. The raid is part of a larger initiative to identify and dismantle drug networks operating within residential areas of East Volusia County.
As the community begins to recover from the disruption, officials urge residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of illegal activity. The task force continues to emphasize its commitment to proactive enforcement and community engagement in the fight against narcotics-related crime.
